On the 28 November 1953, Frank Olson, a US Army biochemist and biological weapons researcher, is in a room on the 13th floor of the Hotel Statler in New York City. He’s also in the middle of a severe psychotic episode. Sometime around 2am, Frank plummets thirteen storeys from the hotel window to the damp streets below. An obvious suicide, right? Not so fast.
At the time of his death, his blood was coursing with the drug lysergic acid dyethalamide – a.k.a. LSD.
One week earlier, without his knowledge, Frank had been laced with the psychedelic drug as part of an experiment. As mental as that sounds, what's more mental is that the experiment was conducted by the CIA. And poor Frank wasn't the only one. Far from it... Let's Get Weird.
